According to archaeological finds, clay pot cookery can be traced back thousands of years, when food in an earthenware pot was put in the glowing ashes of an open fire. What was important for the taste of the food, was not the fire but the pot. The Romans, lovers of good wine and good food, used pots made of a special type of earthenware. Today, this ancient Roman pot has been rediscovered. It is made of different types of clay combined in a secret ratio to produce a special type of earthenware. Clay pot cooking allows you to prepare quick, healthy meals requiring no liquids unless specifically called for. The result: all natural juices, the full flavor and taste and all the essential nutrients and vitamins are retained. By soaking the pot in water before cooking, moisture is absorbed by the clay. The tiny water particles are released during cooking, penetrating and blending with the natural food juices, increasing flavor, tenderness and enhancing aroma. To use the Römertopf soak top and bottom in water for 10-15 minutes, add ingredients, and place in a cold oven. Now just set the required cooking temperature and let the oven heat up gradually. Many times recipes can be converted for clay pots by increasing temperature by 100 degrees and deducting 1/2 hour of cooking time. These clay pots are also great for microwave use, complete instructions included. No lead, cadmium or other harmful substances are in the clay mixture, so complete safety is ensured.
